Here Are Five Future Baby Name Trends For 2025

The Taylor Swift Life of a Showgirl Effect

Taylor Swift's 12th studio album The Life of a Showgirl was the biggest album of 2025, with lead single The Fate of Ophelia becoming her longest UK Number 1 single, spending seven weeks at the top of the Official Singles Chart. With parents looking to Swift’s music as a source of baby name inspiration. we think the album is likely to have a similar impact on baby name charts.

Ophelia

Taken from Shakespeare's Hamlet, Ophelia is the name of the tragic heroine driven mad after her father's death at the hands of her boyfriend. Despite not having the happiest of associations, it’s a name that was already increasing in popularity in the UK, and is currently the 73rd most popular girl’s name as of 2024 (the last fully recorded year of baby names). As the name mentioned in Swift’s lead single title, we think parents will increasingly opt for Ophelia as a first name choice, especially as a more unusual alternative to the ever-popular O name Olivia - currently the number one name for girls for ten years - and top 100 names Olive, Orla and Ottilie.

Honey

Another name featured in Swift’s new album include the pretty and less popular Honey. This is currently the 252nd most popular name in the UK.

Kitty

Kitty, the name of the showgirl in the album’s title track, is also a good choice if you want a less popular baby name. Kitty is the currently the 952nd most popular name for girls.

Opalite

If you want a unique choice, Opalite, the title of Taylor Swift’s album’s second single and name of the synthetic stone that imitates natural opal and moonstone, doesn’t feature on the latest baby name charts at all. This means it was given to two or fewer babies in the last recorded year of births.

As a future baby name trend for 2026, we predict big gains for these showgirl-inspired names picked for success by pop’s reigning queen.

Gender Blender Names

Giving baby girls traditionally male names has long been a popular trend in the US. Celebrities have helped bring the style into the spotlight, with actors Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds naming their daughter James and in January 2026 singer Meghan Trainor announced that she had named her new daughter Mikey. It’s a trend that remains firmly in fashion.

With a whole wealth of classic names to choose from, we think that gender flipped named for girls is a 2026 baby name trend that will start to catch on in the UK. While there were no registered female babies named James in 2024, there were 23 baby girls named Raye (potentially inspired by the success of singer Raye, real name Rachel). For parents who want more traditional choices that aren’t popular for girls, this is a growing trend you can jump on from the start.

Meaningful Memorial Names for Babies

Need meaningful baby name inspo? Your family tree might be the best place to start.

Naming your children after family members is a centuries-old tradition, where babies across cultures have often been named to honour relatives, carry names down family trees and continue family patterns such as all first-born sons having the same middle name.

While this practice has historically been common, it is seen as more traditional and has been less popular in more recent eras. However, comedian Pete Davidson and model Elsie Rose Davidson recently named their new daughter Scottie Rose, apparently after his father Scott, a fireman who died during the September 11th attacks on New York, with a middle name as a nod to Elsie’s own name.

In tumultuous times, people tend to search for names with more of a personal meaning, so we predict a 2026 baby name trend being a rise in memorial names with meaning, inspired by close friends and family members.

Comforting Nature Inspired Baby Names

In times where technologies such as AI are developing quickly, we think this year parents will increasingly look for name choices that draw on natural inspiration.

Nature-inspired baby names are classic, timeless choices, evoke a sense of peace when there is chaos, and connect with the beauty of the natural world. The current top ten of girls names already includes three natural names - Lily, Poppy and Ivy and Saturdays singer Vanessa White recently announced that she has named her new baby boy Sage, so it’s a growing baby name trend for 2026.

Literature Names Inspired By The Classics

With several well-read classics coming to screens this year, we think literature-inspired names in 2026 will be as popular as the books that inspired them.

The new series of Bridgerton is due to release in early 2026, and could prove a rich source of historical name choices that are not currently popular.

Benedict:

The new series will focus on the character of Bridgerton brother Benedict, a name that is currently the 721st most popular name for boys in the UK.

Elouise and Francesca:

Two of the Bridgerton siblings, Elouise and Francesa, are also set to feature prominently, which are traditional baby name choices that still feel fresh, with both names currently outside the top 100 baby names for girls.

Wuthering Heights, set for release in February 2026, could also be a source of name inspiration for boys and girls, with names including:

Hareton, Heath or Heathcliff:

While Hareton might not grow in popularity, Heath or Heathcliff could be strong but unusual picks, with Heath only given to 51 boys in 2024, making it the 702nd most popular name for boys.

Catherine and Isabella:

These are ever-classic choices for girls from the story, with Isabella currently the 11th most popular name for girls, and Catherine the 594th most popular choice of girls names in the UK.

Bronte:

The last name of Emily Bronte, the author of Wuthering Heights, could also be considered when it comes to female names. Bronte was given to 74 babies in 2024, making it the 520th most popular name for girls, and a more unusual name with a rich literary pedigree.
