The top baby girl names and top baby boy names in England and Wales have been revealed for 2024. There was no change when it came to the top baby names in 2024. Noah was the top baby boy name in England and Wales for the second year in a row, and was given to 4586 baby boys. Olivia remained the top baby girl name for for the seventh year in a row, and was given to 3289 baby girls.
The 2024 list was recorded by the UK Office of National Statistics (ONS) in 2022, the latest full year of recorded UK births.
Changes To The Top 10 Baby Names In The UK
While the top baby names remained the same this year, there were changes in the top 10 baby names for both boys and girls.
For baby girl names, Isabella replaced Willow in the top 10 names for girls.
Theodore, Theo and Freddie replaced Harry, Archie and Henry in the top 10 baby boy names in the UK.
New Entries To The Top UK Baby Name List
When it comes to new entries for the top baby boy names, the name Leon, Elias, Musa, Axel and Ibrahim were new entries to the top 100 list of baby names for boys in 2024.
These names replaced Charles, Harvey, Ollie and Nathan, which all dropped out of the top 100.
For girls names, new entries to the top 100 list of baby names for girls were Ophelia, Ottilie, Eloise, Nova and Fatima. Previously popular top 100 names Beatrice, Anna, Holly, Heidi and Amber all left the top 100.
Regional Differences In The Top UK Baby Name Lists
While Noah was the top baby boy name overall, Muhammad was the most popular boys' name in four out of nine English regions.
Olivia was the top girls' name for every English region and Wales, except London where Amelia was the most popular girls' name.
Baby names of Welsh origin featured among the most popular in Wales. For girls, the names Mali, Seren and Eira were among the top 50 list of names for girls in Wales. Arthur, Osian, Elis, Harri and Jac among the top 30 for boys in Wales.

The UK top baby name lists are compiled by the ONS (Office of National Statistics) from statistics of first names recorded when live births are registered in England and Wales each year. It is a legal requitement to register your baby’s name within 42 days of them being born,
To protect the confidentiality of individuals with uncommon baby names, the UK baby name lists only include names given to three or more babies in England and Wales as a whole.
