Osteocare Plus FAQ
Why has Osteocare Plus been developed?
Osteocare Plus is scientifically formulated, and developed by experts. Each ingredient is included on the basis of research evidence. Osteocare Plus combines the original Osteocare tablet formula with soy isoflavones and omega-3 capsules in a convenient 2-in-1 dual pack. No other supplement provides the exact Nutrient Reference Value of calcium & zinc, with 20mcg vitamin D3, magnesium plus additional supporting nutrients.
When is Osteocare Plus recommended?
Research shows the earlier both men and women receive a good supply of these nutrients the better. Getting enough calcium is especially important:
- During and after the menopause
- For elderly men and women
- For athletes, dancers and slimmers
Osteocare Plus is formulated for long-term use and can be taken for as long as required.
What do I need to know before starting to use Osteocare Plus?
Osteocare Plus is a calcium combination supplement, specially formulated as a daily nutritional safeguard for men and women of all ages.
Can Osteocare Plus be used simultaneously with medications?
Generally, Osteocare Plus can be taken alongside medications because it contains only moderate levels of minerals, vitamin D3, Omega-3 fish oils and soy isoflavones. For specific advice on taking Osteocare Plus with medicines, we recommend that you contact your doctor or pharmacist first.
How and when should Osteocare Plus be used?
Two Osteocare micronutrient tablets Plus one capsule are recommended daily with meals, with water or a cold drink. Swallow without chewing. Always ensure that Osteocare Plus is taken with plenty of liquid to wash down the tablet. We do not recommend chewing the tablets or capsules because they have not been formulated as chewable preparations. Chewable tablets usually include flavourings, sweeteners and/or added ingredients to help break the tablet up in the mouth. The original Osteocare formula is also available in both tablet and liquid form. The liquid version is ideal for those who have difficulty-swallowing tablets, and for younger children over 1 years old.
How many tablets and capsules does Osteocare Plus contain?
Osteocare contains 56 calcium and micronutrient tablets (two per day) and 28 Omega-3 capsules (one per day).
Are there any undesired effects whilst taking Osteocare Plus?
Osteocare Plus has no known side effects when taken as directed. Do not exceed the recommended intake.
Need help swallowing a tablet or capsule?
Difficulty in swallowing tablets is quite a common experience. Vitabiotics have researched this extensively and recommend after chewing some food (e.g. banana), just before you swallow, pop the tablet into your mouth and swallow it together with the chewed food, followed by some liquid. The throat opens up wider to swallow the chewed food and so the tablet should go down with greater ease. Alternatively, the tablets may be swallowed with thicker liquids such as yoghurts or smoothies.

What is the source of calcium used in Osteocare Plus?
The calcium in Osteocare Plus is in the form of calcium carbonate, which provides the highest concentration of elemental calcium possible in a supplement. This means that Osteocare Plus can provide the full NRV of calcium and other minerals without the need to take lots of tablets. The calcium carbonate used is of high pharmaceutical grade from a natural source. To prevent possible contamination with metals such as lead, oyster calcium and bone-dolomite have not been included in the Osteocare formulation.
Can calcium supplements like Osteocare Plus cause kidney stones?
It is important to select a calcium supplement such as Osteocare Glucosamine, which includes calcium in combination with other synergistic co-factors such as magnesium. The presence of the mineral magnesium, as well as contributing to the maintenance of normal bones, also contributes to normal protein synthesis and electrolyte balance.
Is Osteocare Plus suitable to take if I am pregnant?
During pregnancy we recommend you take a supplement specially formulated for pregnancy such at Vitabiotics Pregnacare Max which provides 500mg calcium. If you are using Pregnacare Original or Plus with Omega-3, to safeguard your calcium intake during pregnancy we recommend Osteocare original formula which is available in tablets, chewable or fizz. For maximum results, Osteocare should be taken at a separate time of the day, at least an hour apart from Pregnacare .
Is Osteocare Plus recommended with any other Vitabiotics product(s)?
Osteocare Plus has been carefully formulated so that it can be used in combination with any other product in Vitabiotics' multivitamin and mineral product range, or other food supplements such as garlic, fish oil etc. However, for maximum results we recommend Osteocare is taken at a separate time of the day, at least an hour apart from your main Vitabiotics ' multivitamin supplement.
Some Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) levels are above 100%, is this safe?
Certain vitamins are very safe at levels tens or even hundreds of times the NRV, whereas for others the safety level is much closer to the NRV. For this reason every vitamin and mineral needs to considered on an individual basis in terms of its upper safe level.
The Nutrient Reference Value (NRV) is the amount of a vitamin or mineral which has been calculated to help prevent basic deficiency states in the general population. However, certain vitamins and minerals at optimal levels, above the NRV, have consistently been shown to have positive benefits in specific areas of health. This is why some Vitabiotics formulas have certain nutrient levels greater than 100% NRV.
All Vitabiotics products has been developed using the latest research and contain effective levels of vitamins and minerals, while avoiding any excessive amounts, in accordance with official upper safe limits for vitamins and minerals.
Vitabiotics avoids 'mega dose' levels of isolated nutrients and instead we have always stressed the importance of safe, moderate and sensible levels of vitamins and minerals, carefully balanced to maximise their combined effect; an approach which has been supported by many experts and researchers over the years.
