Vitabiotics Pregnacare Sponsors Medical Student

My name is Rachel - I’m a final year medical student at the University of Leeds who is both interested in and actively pursuing pregnancy research. Over the last three years, I have been involved in both lab-based and clinical research surrounding the complications in pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction.

In August 2023, Vitabiotics Pregnacare were kind enough to sponsor my living costs to attend the University of Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital to learn about their research in order to further develop her ongoing research in Leeds.

As a member of Leeds Pregnancy Research Group (@LeedsPRG), I am very passionate about raising awareness about the importance of pregnancy research.

A topic I am very passionate about is the study of molecules – known as Extracellular Vesicles - to try and predict earlier on in pregnancy certain complications. The lab I visited, with the support of Vitabiotics, work with these molecules and were able to share the best ways to look at them in relation to pregnancy. Whilst this research is in its early stages, it is just one of the ways clinicians and scientists alike are hoping to make pregnancy safer for women in the UK and across the world.

I just wanted to say thank you once again to Vitabiotics Pregnacare, as without them I would not have been able to go to America to learn more about this very important research.
