Perfectil Platinum Collagen Drinks For Hair & Skin

Introduction

Our skin is exposed to a lot each day and the condition of our skin paints a detailed picture of our age and lifestyle. The dermal layer of our skin contains an elastic matrix made of collagen, which helps skin to stay looking youthful. As we age, the level of collagen in our skin starts to diminish, resulting in signs of ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles and a loss of plumpness and hydration.

Our skin is a great barrier, which helps to protect us from the environment but also means that typical anti-ageing cleansers and creams often cannot reach the deepest layers of our skin. Therefore for optimum results, a 'beauty from within' approach is best to compliment our daily beauty regimes.

The Perfectil® Platinum Collagen range has been developed on the basis of the latest scientific research to provide carefully balanced nutrients and collagen peptides and is formulated with advanced Peptan® collagen peptides.

Each Perfectil® Platinum Collagen product is enriched with supporting nutrients to provide 'triple active' support for skin, hair and nails.

Perfectil Peptan® Research

The Perfectil® Platinum Collagen range has been developed by the nutritional experts at Vitabiotics, the UK's leading vitamin company1, who have pioneered over 20 years of research and innovation with the Perfectil® range, which is the UK's leading supplement for skin, hair, and nails1.

Each product in the Perfectil® range has been developed on the basis of the latest scientific evidence.

Your Skin's Structure

Skin is the body's largest organ and acts as a key barrier to environmental stressors such as pollution, the harsh effects of winter and the sun's UV rays. This means that the condition of our skin closely reflects not only genetic factors, but also our age and lifestyle choices.

The skin is made up of two main layers. The top layer is called the epidermis and this consists of two sublayers: a sheet of dead skin cells called the stratum corneum and below it a sheet of living skin cells that will eventually die and replace the stratum corneum as it sheds. We each shed as much as 60 grams of dead skin cells each month. That's the weight of a large egg with its shell!

The stratum corneum has an important protective role, because the dead, compacted skin cells it is made up of are largely impenetrable to outside pollutants and therefore act as a barrier to protect our bodies from the environment. Unfortunately, this also means that typical beauty products such as cleansers and creams are often unable to reach the deepest layers of our skin. Therefore, a 'beauty from within' approach is recommended alongside our daily beauty regimes to achieve maximum results.

The lower layer of the skin is the dermis, which contains hair follicles, oil glands, sweat glands as well as both the collagen matrix that gives skin its elasticity and the blood vessels that transport oxygen and other nutrients to the skin, hair roots and nail beds.

Collagen - Your Skin's Scaffolding

Proteins are long strings made up of building blocks known as amino acids. Proteins have countless different functions in the body and therefore sufficient intake of essential amino acids is vital to human health. There are 21 different amino acids that the body uses to assemble proteins, of which 9 are known as 'essential' amino acids as they cannot be produced by the body and are only obtained from the diet. Perfectil® Platinum Collagen drinks are rich in key amino acids and can help to safeguard your daily intake.

Collagen is a protein produced primarily by cells known as fibroblasts and forms part of connective tissue, an elastic matrix that holds together the body's various components and tissues. In the skin, collagen is present in the lower layer known as the dermis, where it contributes to the skin's firmness, hydration and elasticity.

This is particularly relevant for hair health, as collagen is vital to anchor hair follicles, the structures which grow new strands of hair, in their proper place in the dermis. Additionally, collagen helps to maintain the health of blood vessels and ensures that they are held in close proximity to the hair follicles, where they are needed to deliver oxygen and other vital nutrients for healthy hair growth.

Another vital component of collagen is hydroxyproline. This is a modified form of the amino acid L-Proline that helps to stabilise the collagen matrix. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation (and is required for the conversion of L-Proline into hydroxyproline). Since vitamin C can neither be produced nor stored by the body, a constant dietary intake is required in order to maintain healthy levels of vitamin C in the body. A daily supplement can help to safeguard your dietary intake.

Hydroxyproline is a key component of the Peptan® collagen peptides included in the Perfectil® Platinum Collagen formula. It is believed that when small peptides containing hydroxyproline enter the bloodstream, they 'trick' the body into thinking that its own collagen is breaking down at an increased rate. This, in turn, is believed to stimulate fibroblasts, the main cells in the body that produce collagen, to synthesise new collagen fibres and help rebuild the collagen matrix. Collagen peptides are also thought to stimulate the production of hyaluronic acid, a key molecule that helps to hold moisture in the skin in order to maintain a plump and youthful look.

In order to ensure maximum bioavailability, the Perfectil Peptan® collagen peptides are low molecular weight when compared to certain collagen formulas available in the market. The phrase 'low molecular weight' means that each particle of collagen provided by the Perfectil®Platinum Collagen drinks is smaller, so that they can be more easily absorbed by the body.

Collagen And The Ageing Process

The more collagen you have in your skin, the more youthful, elastic and supple it appears. As we age, production of collagen decreases and the breakdown of collagen increases, meaning that after the age of 20, we lose approximately 1% of our skin’s collagen every year. This means that by retirement age, close to half of our skin’s collagen can have degraded, resulting in the common signs of ageing: fine lines, wrinkles and creases, as well as sagging and a loss of hydration. This process can be accelerated by internal stressors such as anxiety and external stressors such as pollution. These are both increasingly common facets of a modern lifestyle.

A Graph Shoeing How The Density Of Collagen In Our Skin Decreases Gradually With Age

Over the past 10 years, a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that the main differentiator between plump, youthful skin and ageing skin is the overall health of the underlying collagen matrix. As skin ages, this matrix becomes increasingly weak and fragmented and begins to lose its ability to hold onto the moisture that keeps skin supple and hydrated.

Taking steps to help maintain the health of the skin's collagen matrix is key to addressing the ageing process and clinical studies show that an effective way of doing this may be to ingest liquid collagen products such as Perfectil® Platinum Collagen in order to boost the body's own production of collagen and reduce the rate at which it breaks down.
