10 things to do in October

Autumn is here and the nights are drawing in; so what are the best things to do in October for families and small children?

Go on an autumnal nature walk. The season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, autumn is made for atmospheric walks in the park. Go puddle jumping. Collect leaves. Find conkers! It's the stuff of childhood dreams.

See the Picasso Portraits at the National Gallery. We think it's never too early to introduce your children to art and this is one exhibition that promises to be enormously colourful and visual for children AND parents. Booking is advised, more details here.

Take a trip to The Baby Show. Taking place at Olympia London over 21st - 23rd October, it's rammed to the rafters with baby and pregnancy bargains. We'll be there on the Pregnacare stand so come and say hi. You also can win tickets to The Baby Show in our new competition and make sure you also check out our special show discount.

Celebrate Half Term. School's out! No more rushing in the morning or the usual term time mad dash to find books and shoes. For a week, anyway.

Go and see a family film. From Finding Dory to Storks and Miss Peregrine's Home for Perculiar Children (for the older ones) there's lots of family films on this half term. Get the popcorn!

Or have your own film afternoon...Find a DVD everyone can agree on - Toy Story? Harry Potter? Paddington? - and snuggle up on sofa. Perfect (read our list of more rainy day activities)

Feast on a family curry. The 10th - 16th October is National Curry Week, and what better way to celebrate than tucking in to a family feast? Here's a great recipe for a mild chicken curry or an Annabel Karmel recipe for a kids chicken curry. Yum.

Celebrate Diwali. Taking place on Sunday 30th this year, Diwali is the Hindu, Sikh and Jain festival of lights. There's more info on how and where you can celebrate here and you can also join thousands of families celebrating the Diwali festivities in Trafalgar Square with music, dancing and lights.

Make sure you put the clocks back. Darker evenings are on the way...

And finally on our list of things to do in October, have a Halloween Spooktacular. It is of course Halloween at the end of the month. There's a whole host of Halloween craft ideas on Pinterest (make sure you follow TalkMum on Pinterest too).

These are our favourie things to do in October...what are yours? Make sure you also catch up on our back to school posts and our fashion-themed Night Feed Nine too.
