To help boost energy levels and maintain overall wellbeing, there are a few things you should remember:

  • Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. A healthy diet can help maintain a healthy heart and circulation, and keep your bodyweight within the normal range for your height.
  • Try to drink eight glasses of water a day. Water helps cleanse your system and rids the body of toxins.
  • Try to cut out alcohol, or if you do drink alcohol, keep within the Government’s recommended daily unit guidelines. Excessive alcohol consumption may lead to high blood pressure and poor health.
  • Cut down on smoking or, ideally, give up altogether.
  • Exercise can help boost your circulation and give you more energy. Exercise should be regular and vigorous enough to make you slightly out of breath. Aim for 20-30 minutes of exercise three times a week.
  • Relax! Stress can have a negative impact on your energy levels. Laughing, meditation, tai chi and exercise are all excellent ways to help manage stress.
  • Make sure you get enough sleep - for most people, an average of 8 hours per night. A lack of sleep can leave you feeling fatigued and make it difficult to concentrate.
  • Try to limit your exposure to pesticides and chemicals and have a healthy diet by eating fresh, organic produce that is washed well.
  • Help remove chemical spray residues on fruits and vegetables by soaking them in water with added apple cider vinegar and rinse thoroughly. This may also help kill bacteria on the skins (2 tablespoons per pint) and rinse thoroughly. Alternatively, peel foods if you think they may have been exposed to pesticides or chemicals.
  • Avoid processed meals which are bad for the long term health of the bowel. Often you cannot guarantee where the content has come from and what quality it may be. Quick processed foods can be laden with preservatives, colourings and flavourings so be aware.
  • Eliminate or cut down on fizzy drinks, as they can interfere with digestion. Many are loaded with phosphates that can deplete the body of minerals, drink fresh water and juices instead.
